Investing.com– Investors were seen sharply scaling back bullish positions on U.S. stock indexes over the past week, specifically the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq 100, as sentiment was battered by signs of sticky inflation and rising geopolitical tensions, Citi analysts said in a note.
April hasn’t been very welcoming for US stocks so far as higher rates continue to pressure valuations and heavy fiscal spending complicates efforts to tame inflation. As a result, the S&P 500 fell more than 5% this month, retreating below the 5,000 mark for the first time since February.
But hope is on the horizon. Profits for the Mag Seven – which also includes Apple, Amazon.com and Nvidia – are forecast to rise 38% in the first quarter from a year ago, dwarfing the overall S&P 500\’s 2.4% anticipated year-over-year earnings growth, according to Bloomberg Intelligence data.
