The benchmark equity indices tossed between ups and downs throughout the day and finally settled in the green. US rate -sensitive IT stocks contributed majorly to the fag-end rally as all 10 constituents advanced, adding between 1% and 4.2%. Investors gained Rs 3.1 lakh crore on Thursday.
IT stocks presented a muted show as investors turn cautious ahead of key US data that will determine future interest rate trends. Sensex dipped 118 points to settle at 72,987. Nifty shed 17 points to end at 22,200.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 56.99 points, or 0.14%, at the open to 39,615.10.

The 30-share BSE benchmark Sensex dipped by 45 points or 0.06% to settle at 73,466, while the NSE Nifty50 closed just above the 22,300 level.

Gold prices were slightly down in recent trading, and market participants are now looking forward to more inflation data expected to come out soon.
The S&P 500 opened lower by 76.15 points, or 1.50%, at 4,995.42, while the Nasdaq Composite dropped 337.49 points, or 2.15%, to 15,375.26 at the opening bell.
Q4 results today: 15 companies, including RIL, will reveal quarterly results. RIL expected to announce dividend. RIL may see revenue growth, EBITDA increase, and net profit drop.
Q4 results today: HDFC Bank to release Q4 numbers today with expectations of strong growth. TCS exceeded estimates, Infosys faced challenges in Q4.
The broader NSE Nifty climbed 151 points or 0.69% to finish at 22,147. Among the Sensex constituents, Bajaj Finance, M&M, HDFC Bank, JSW Steel, and Maruti emerged as the top gainers, registering gains of 2-3%. Infosys, HCL Tech, and TCS closed 0.6% to 1.2% lower, resulting in a 0.4% decline in the IT index.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 26.60 points, or 0.07%, at the open to 37,801.98.
